Excellent food and crazy fast service. Try their amazing taco salads, quesadillas and many more to die for choices. Very nice restaurant, great location; plenty parking... I definitely recommend!!

It's been so long since I've received service this bad! Our waitress rolled her eyes at us TWICE. The first time when she claimed their selection of vodka was on the bar menu (it isn't, and they only have absolut) and the second time when she delivered the wrong entre to one of my dinning guests. Three of the four of us had our order wrong, but our waitress' attitude was so horrible, we sucked it up and ate what she brought us. Both checks were hopelessly screwed up, but when we tried to fix it she was completely uninterested. We ended up just paying to get the heck out of there.

We no longer live in Cedar Rapids, but this is our favorite place when we visit home. We have never had bad food or service at this restaurant. Their food is really good! I usually get enchiladas and my husband, a burrito. The salsa is great. Whenever we go home, a trip to El Rancho is always a must!

Cant miss the building if you drive by Kmart on the westside. Your typical 'authentic' mexican restaurant and menus you'd expect. Average price range. Chips & salsa are good. Margs are average (not strong at all though). Staff is friendly. Lot of the customers are regulars. I just wished they utilized the large wrap around "deck" for outdoor seating.

I've been here a few times, so I can safely say that this review is reflective of how they run the place. Our waiter let us sit without taking drink orders for 20 minutes. 20 MORE minutes later, he arrived with our drinks and disappeared. 5 minutes later, he arrives to take our orders. 40 minutes later, our orders arrive. I got a cold enchilada dish with a mountain of lettuce to cover up how revolting the dish was. The beans were stale and cold. No one at our table of 7 received even 1 refill. 30 minutes later, he dropped off our check. 10 minutes later, he came by the table with the card scanner. It literally took 2 HOURS to have our Mexican meal. Let that sink in. I should also note that on our other visits, we had two female waitresses. These women are related to the owners, and are extremely unfriendly. What I mean is, when they initially "Greeted" us, they put the menu's down on the table and walked away without a word. When they came back (yes, this happened on both occasions), they came by and loudly said, "Drink?" These were all awful experiences (our friends like it for some reason, and we humored them) but now, we will never return. I can't stress enough how poor their service is. Food is inconsistent. Sometimes good.

This is a super-busy restaurant, and it's because it's delicious and is affordable. If they mess something up (ie my food came out cold, which had never happened before), they correct it and probably won't charge you for the meal. The drinks are always mixed perfectly. Overall, this restaurant definitely teaches its waiters and waitresses to focus on service. It's definitely owned by someone who wants repeat customers.

A popular restaurant as there's usually a pretty long wait on weekends. Good margaritas, I would recommend the peach or mango. We had the fajitas tonight. You can go wrong with that dish, even when they're bad (and they weren't), they're still pretty good! We shared the 24oz platter for $18 and extra plate of sides (rice, beans, lettuce, pico and sour cream for $5. It was plenty for four of us. Very friendly service, it appears to be family owned. One of the better choices for Mexican in CR.

Cheap beer, always good. Food was average Mexican fare. Restaurant feels huge during the quiet hours. Friendly staff.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
